Dr Ourania Kolokotroni MD, PhD

Ourania Kolokotroni is a pediatrician with a PhD in Epidemiology. She is currently a full time faculty member at the University of Nicosia Medical School coordinating  the MSc in Family Medicine Programme. She also holds an honorary appointment with St George’s University of London.

Dr Kolokotroni qualified as a doctor from the University of Nottingham UK (BM, BS 1999). She has specialized in Paediatrics and is a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health UK since 2004. She also holds a PhD in Epidemiology/Public Health from the Cyprus University of Technology (2015) and her work focussed on the epidemiology of vitamin D status in adolescents in Cyprus and its relation to the prevalence of asthma, allergic diseases and atopy. She is also a certified lactation consultant and a founding member of the Cyprus Breastfeeding Association “Gift for Life

Dr Kolokotroni has been the Research Coordinator of the Paediatric Respiratory Research Unit at the Cyprus International Institute for the Environment and Public Health in association with the Harvard School of Public Health for 7 years and worked within a team that laid foundations for epidemiological research in Cyprus. She was involved in the organization and conduction of large population studies, funded through competitive grant applications whilst her work involved the organization, supervision of data collection, data analysis and write up of scientific publications and project reports to funders. Her research interests include the environmental determinants of respiratory and allergic diseases in children (including vitamin D) and the association of early life exposures with the development of chronic diseases in adult life. Her research work has been published in peer review journals and has been presented in European and International conferences.
