American Medical Center, Nicosia – The public talk “My Body. My Journey. My Birth.” on Saturday the 22nd of March had a great eco with many pregnant couples informing themselves how to achieve a positive birth experience. On the panel were two mother Ioli Orphanides and Veronica Goncharenko speaking about their negative and positive birth experiences as well as Dr. Andreas Stavroulis, UK trained Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, and Anastasia Uvarova, UK trained Physiotherapist informing about important aspects of birth.
“If I don’t know my options, I don’t have any. “
Common conclusion was that women need more information, and support from people of the environment, e.x. partner or birth assistant ( “doula”), midwives and doctors. They need to be very conscious about their choice of birthing team to achieve a conscious use of technology for their and their babies health and for birth to turn into one of the best and most empowering experiences in a woman’s life instead of a traumatizing one.
